Nice writeup! I think my biggest comment, similar to Brandon Anderson’s, is that even if there’s a high probability of an upset in a particular part of the bracket (especially the first round), it may not be worth it because the downstream risk of not picking the favorite may not be mathematically optimal, especially in standard scoring systems where more points are given to correct picks later in the tournament.
